Gold-tone jewelry and water

Ninni Rope Chain Necklace, worn, close up

Short answer: take it off. A gold-tone finish is a thin surface layer, and water wears it faster, especially with soap, chlorine or salt.

Why water matters

  • Soap and shower gel leave a film that dulls the finish.
  • Chlorine in pools and salt in sea water are harsh on plated surfaces and on pearls.
  • Sweat contains salt too, so take pieces off for the gym.

What about stainless steel?

Stainless steel resists rust, so the base of a piece like the Ninni Rope Chain Necklace, the Annalena Herringbone Chain Necklace or the Torild Mariner Link Necklace copes with a splash. The gold-tone colour on top is still a surface finish, so the same habits apply.

If your jewelry gets wet

  1. Rinse off salt water or pool water briefly with clean tap water.
  2. Pat it dry with a soft cloth straight away.
  3. Let it dry fully before it goes back in its pouch.

Pearls and water

Pearls do not like soaking. Wipe them with a barely damp cloth and let them dry flat. The care guide has the full routine.
